LABORATORIY FOR SIGNAL PROCESSING AND REMOTE CONTROL

Laboratory for Signal Processing and Remote Control is one of the three laboratories of the Institute for Automation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor, Slovenia. Head of the Laboratory is prof. Dušan Gleich, PhD.

The main field of our research and educational work is interdisciplinary field of signal processing and remote control. Both areas are interlaced, a common basis is often signal processing.

In general, our fields of activity are signal and systems theory, closed-loop systems control and their use in various fields of sensor, measurement and control technology, computer vision, remote sensing and remote control.

In the field of remote sensing we pay a lot of attention to the data and radar images captured by satellites from. We have access to a high-resolution radar data from satellites TerraSAR-X and Tandem-X, sent in the Earth's orbit in 2008 and 2011 by the German Space Research Agency. Our activities in the field of the processing of radar images includes the processing of the final focused SAR image to eliminate spot noise and scene modeling with texture models and indexation. We research and build our own ultrasound and radio-frequency radar systems.

On sensor networks field we are dealing with the connection of sensors to the wireless network. We use the physical layer of IEEE 802.15.4 and develop methods for routing traffic through the network. We are dealing with the localization and positioning on the basis of measuring power and evaluating the angle of arrival of the radio signal. We are researching and developing sensors for estimating the humidity and other parameters of the soil and materials based on propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves.

In the field of remote control we are working on remote control systems, communication in automation and industry, with distributed control, measurement, management and services from a distance (telematics). The important place also occupies evaluation of communication systems and the research and implementation of new information and communication technologies (ICT).

In the field of research and the use of automatic control systems we are dealing with the analysis and design of closed-loop control, where in addition to classic methods we are also developing modern and innovative approaches of robust, predictive and intelligent control systems.

A lot of attention is given to research work with students, combined with domestic and foreign partners in the industry, research institutes and universities.

In the frame of laboratory works the Centre of Knowledge: CENTRE FOR REMOTE SENSING.

The laboratory is the driving force in the frame of the research program of the Telematics, funded by the Public Research Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (ARRS).
